Jan Kořínek is a Czech pianist, Hammond organist, producer, educator, and bandleader known for his deep roots in blues, soul, jazz, and groove music. Over the years he has performed with a wide range of international and national artists across the blues, soul, jazz, funk, Americana, and roots music scenes, appearing at clubs and festivals throughout Europe and beyond. Besides live performance, he has produced numerous recordings and musical projects while also working as a private music coach and ensemble mentor, focusing on rhythm, improvisation, stylistic interpretation, and band interaction.

Featuring experienced international musicians, the project moves naturally between soul, blues and jazz while maintaining a distinctive European character inspired by classic American Hammond organ bands. Currently with Osian Roberts, Jiri Marsicek and Oliver Lipensky.

Freak Power is a British acid jazz and funk collective founded by Ashley Slater and Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim), known for their explosive mix of groove, soul, jazz, and dance music. Since 2024, Jan Kořínek has collaborated with Freak Power as Hammond organist and keyboard player.

Jan Kořínek collaborates with legendary British trombonist and vocalist Ashley Slater (Freak Power, Carla Bley, Fatboy Slim projects) in the Ashley Slater Heptet, combining groove-oriented jazz, funk, soul, and Hammond organ traditions. In May 2026, the ensemble released a new record featuring original music and contemporary brass-driven arrangements.

Biography

Jan Kořínek is a Czech pianist, Hammond organist, producer, educator, composer, and bandleader whose work spans blues, soul, jazz, funk, Americana, and roots music. Coming from a musical family and inspired early by his father, pianist Miroslav Kořínek, he gradually became one of the most active Hammond organ players on the Central European music scene. Throughout his career Kořínek has collaborated with a broad spectrum of acclaimed Czech and international musicians and bands. His long list of musical associations includes Miro Žbirka, Chris Cain, Sugaray Rayford, Ashley Slater, Freak Power, Carlos Johnson, Chanda Rule, Johnny Rawls, Sharon Lewis, Trudy Lynn, D.K. Harrell, Luca Giordano, Steve Walsh, Rene Trossman, Wabi Daněk, Druhá tráva, November 2nd, Neřež, Krausberry, Groovekeepers, The Blues Generation, Ashley Slater Heptet, Sugarfoot, and many others from the European blues, jazz, and soul scenes. Kořínek recorded and toured with Slovak pop legend Miro Žbirka for more than a decade and appeared on several albums and live projects. In the blues world he has shared stages and recordings with artists such as Chris Cain, Carlos Johnson, and Sugaray Rayford, while also building long-term projects with American singers based in Europe including Chanda Rule, Lorenzo Thompson and Sharon Lewis. As a producer he worked on numerous albums and participated in many international recording sessions. He is also the founder of his own projects including Jan Kořínek & Groove and the former Jan Kořínek Soultet, combining Hammond organ traditions with modern groove-oriented arrangements influenced by classic soul, funk, jazz, and New Orleans music. His current projects frequently feature collaborations with leading musicians from across the world. Alongside performing, Kořínek is deeply involved in music education and mentoring. He teaches piano, Hammond organ, musicality, improvisation, band interaction, and stylistic interpretation, working with both professional and advanced musicians. He also leads workshops and educational projects focused on blues, soul, and jazz music. Over the years he has appeared at clubs and festivals throughout Europe, performing music ranging from traditional blues and soul to jazz, funk, Americana, and Hammond-organ-driven groove music.
